PFAS-polluted drinking water purified by ion exchange

The residents of the Danish island Fanoe is now free from the ‘forever chemical’ PFAS in the drinking water. Using advanced ion exchange technology, EUROWATER has designed a purification method that can eliminate PFAS in drinking water

The plant, consisting of two specially built units which can purify 150,000 liters of drinking water per hour. The water passes through small ion exchange resins that absorb the PFAS substances and reduce the content of each PFAS-4 compound to below 0.1 nanograms per liter.

Over time, the capacity of the ion exchange resins will be depleted and they will need to be replaced. While activated carbon, which has been used for PFAS treatment in the past, has a short lifespan of only a few months, ion exchange resins have a lifespan of 8-10 years.
